Before coming to a conclusion whether or not home remedies are successful in removing skin tags, let’s us first explore the topic in a little more detailed manner.
Skin tags are small benign overgrowths or extension of skin that grow on the folds of your skin. To put it simply they are found at places where there is more skin to skin friction such as neck, under the arms, armpits, groin, under the breast, eyelids etc. However, this is not the only reason why skin tags grow, there are other reasons as well such as Diabetes, Overweight, Hormonal changes, heredity etc.
In order to treat any skin condition, first and the foremost thing we should do is to check and evaluate what kind of growth it is. If an atypical mole is misconstrued as a skin tag, there are chances that the treatment might be different. And, if it’s a very rare form of atypical mole that needs further pathological examination, using a home remedy, in that case, could be very dangerous.
So the most important thing that we should do is to find out what kind of growth it is.
Secondly, we should check for signs of irritation, bleeding, asymmetry, change in color. These are the signs where a dermatologists evaluation is of utmost importance.
The reason we are bringing this up is that we go for home remedies and other over the counter products thinking that these are cheaper & convenient alternatives to medical procedures without realizing the gravity of the situation.
We are not advocating that you shouldn’t use home remedies or any skin tag removal creams at all but what we are saying is that use them with caution. What might work for someone else might not work for you.
And, even in case, you wish to proceed with them make sure the skin tag is benign which most of them are but just have a second opinion by sitting with your physician or doctor and explore various removal procedures, understand the risks and benefits of various methods and then take an informed decision.
Now, that we have set up the premise for the article let us proceed with some of the most popular home remedies which are frequently used to treat a variety of skin conditions including skin tags.
